Movies based on video games rarely do well, but the animated Angry Birds adaptation was the No. 1 movie in America this weekend after debuting with $39 million at the box office. The movie even held off major stars like Ryan Gosling, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron from the top spot, according to USA Today.

Rogen and Efron are back for the sequel to their 2014 hit comedy Neighbors, with the feminist masterpiece Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, which was only able to bring in $21.8 million on a $35 million budget in its opening weekend. That figure was good for No. 3 domestically. The Nice Guys struggled even more. The action-comedy starring Gosling as a private detective alongside Russell Crowe as a dude who hurts people for a living only pulled in $11.3 million for fourth place.

Captain America: Civil War added $33.1 million to its domestic total, which was good enough for second place. That movie has now earned more than $1 billion worldwide. Forbes reports that in terms of comic book movies, Civil War is now in fifth place all time, behind only The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion), Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion), and The Avengers ($1.5 billion).

The really big winner this weekend, though, was a movie that hasn't even been released in the U.S. yet. X-Men: Apocalypse hauled in $103.3 million in the international box office, where it debuted in 75 foreign markets including China, Japan, the U.K., France. and Russia. That's a good sign, because, as Deadline reports, that's even more than the last X-Men film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, debuted to in 2014.
