After learning he was acquitted of double murder in 1995, O.J. Simpson turned to Robert Shapiro and whispered something in his ear. More than two decades later, Shapiro has revealed what Simpson said.
"You told me this would be the result from the beginning. You were right," the famed defense attorney told Megyn Kelly.
The information was revealed during a Fox Broadcasting special that aired Tuesday night. It was the first sit-down interview Shapiro has conducted in more than 20 years, so it’s no surprise he had a lot to say about the murder case.
Shapiro explained to Kelly that the prosecution team didn’t understand the evidence, and that it is likely there was more than one knife used in the murders, as well as more than one person involved.
He also admitted to trying on the infamous glove before Simpson, an event that was depicted in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story series.
"I tried the glove on. It was a little bit wide in my palm and a little bit long in my fingers," Shapiro told Kelly. "O.J. Simpson has enormous hands and I knew that the glove would not fit him. No question about it. Wouldn’t even be close."
Shapiro admitted that the thought of trying on a glove that was potentially worn by a murdered was "eerie" in retrospect, but he didn’t have that feeling in the moment.
"As you say it now, it is chilling, but it wasn’t something that I contemplated or thought about at the time."
