Actress and filmmaker Lupita Nyong'o is reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios for a starring role in the highly anticipated Black Panther film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award winning actress is in negotiations to play a character who hasn't yet been named but would be the love interest of T'Challa, AKA the Black Panther.
Marvel announced in January that Creed director Ryan Coogler would write and direct the flick, which is due in theaters February of 2018. Chadwick Boseman is playing Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War and will star as the titular character in Black Panther as well. There has also been speculation that Andy Serkis will reprise his role as the villain Klaw for Black Panther, but so far Boseman is the only confirmed cast member. Confirmed details about Black Panther have been few and far between since the film was announced in October 2014 along with sequels for Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor.
Nyong'o most recently appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which she played the role of alien Maz Kanata. She's also the voice of Raksha, the mother wolf in The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story.
Asked about the possibility Nyong'o starring in the film, a representative from Marvel Studio told Complex the studio would "not comment on rumor and speculation." So we'll just have to hold our breath and see what's to come next for Black Panther.
