Though Tracy Morgan is currently quite busy making his way across the country on his Picking Up the Pieces stand-up tour, the beloved comedian took some time out over the weekend to share a heartwarming moment with the doctors and nurses who saved his life in 2014. Morgan performed at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Saturday, just two miles down the road from the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. In fact, Peoplereports, Morgan donated all of the show's profits to the hospital to honor their role in bringing him back to full health following a harrowing traffic collision.
"To be standing on stage with the people that saved my life in the audience was an overwhelming experience," Morgan told People on Sunday. "I will never fully be able to thank the doctors, nurses, first responders and everyone else that got me back on that stage enough." After the sold-out show wrapped, Morgan asked the nurses, doctors, and first-responders to join him on stage for a standing ovation. "It was a very emotional night," one source told People.
According to Morgan, the "only good thing that happened" on the night of the accident that briefly left him in a coma was the fact that he happened to be close to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. "These people are heroes and I love them all from the bottom of my heart," Morgan said of the staff. "God bless them all."
In a lengthy interview with Rolling Stone last month, Morgan recounted the dire mental state he was in following the accident that tragically took the life of friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair. "I was in a very dark place," Morgan said. "I was sitting right here, contemplating suicide." The accident, Morgan revealed, has given him a renewed sense of what's important in life. "I look forward to my wife getting pregnant again," Morgan said. "I look forward to my daughter going to nursery school. I'm here. I get to see all of that."
