Any true gamer will tell you graphics don’t matter, all that matters is that you have a fun time playing said games, but that’s pure poppycock to the head honchos at Sony.

According to reports from Giant Bomb and The Verge their upcoming 4K PlayStation 4 will boast a better processor speed, memory bandwidth, and graphics capabilities compared to the current PlayStation 4 that’s out now. Codenamed ‘Neo’ [because reasons], this updated console will require publishers to port PS4 games with a both a 'base' mode for play on the regular console, and the ‘Neo’ mode, which can take advantage of hardware upgrades to increase graphical quality and boost frame rates, this will all take place from October.

Sony haven’t confirmed, or denied, that they are essentially working on what is a ‘PlayStation 4.5’, but it’s apparent existence has been was rumoured as far back as last month. Reports indicate that it will be released before the PS VR headset in October, which would make sense as the updated console will want to accommodate Sony’s long-term VR ambitions. Ironically Sony's VR project is codenamed ‘Morpheus’, so it could of no coincidence there.

Current PS4 owners don’t need to fret just yet as the original console is still very much in Sony’s plans. No price has been placed upon the PlayStation 4 ‘Neo’ but it’s believed that it will cost the same as the current console, $399 (£277). Make sure to check back here soon for more information.
