Even for those of us suffering from a little bit of superhero movie fatigue, it would be difficult to say that Suicide Squad doesn't look pretty incredible. The anti-superhero film, which will finally make its way to theaters later this summer, will feature a new Joker played by Jared Leto, Will Smith as the deadly assassin Deadshot, and model Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. But the star of the film—at least from the trailers—seems to be Harley Quinn, who will be played by the incredible Australian actress Margot Robbie.
Speaking to Fandango at CinemaCon this past week, Robbie opened up about playing the deranged supervillain and revealed her hopes to continue playing the character for a while. "I will do whatever I can to keep playing Harley for another couple of years. Until my body gives out and I can't do it anymore," Robbie said.
Suicide Squad is being directed by David Ayer who directed Fury, a World War II film with Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, and Logan Lerman back in 2014. While his latest won't be released until August, earlier this month Ayer spoke about working on its sequel, hoping to shoot sometime in 2017. And, if that's all true, it looks like Robbie is determined to be a part of it.
In the comics Harley Quinn is as major adversary of Batman and a frequent love interest of the Joker. Knowing that, it would be pretty amazing if we saw Robbie have a stand alone film, or, at the very least have her appear in the next Batman film—whenever that will be released.
In the meantime, however, Robbie is pretty busy. The actress, who first made waves for her delightful performance in Martin Scorcese's The Wolf of Wall Street, has another huge film about to be released. She's starring as Jane, the wife of Tarzan in the live action film coming out a month before Suicide Squad.
Still, we're most excited for her turn as Harley Quinn.
