The last few times actor Jim Carrey has popped up in the news haven't been very pleasant. Last summer he thoroughly embarrassed himself when he went on an anti-vaccination rant on Twitter, and a few months later his girlfriend Cathriona White, who was reportedly married to another man at the time of her death, committed suicide. It seems that the recent unfortunate press coverage hasn't got Carrey down, though: he left a server an enormous tip at dinner last week.

Carrey and some friends were eating dinner at a fancy restaurant called Chester in the Gansevoort Hotel in New York's meatpacking district when he decided to dip into his pocket and totally make the night of his server, Uproxx reports. The bill only came out to $151, but Carrey decided to tip a whopping $225. Forget the general 20% rule of thumb—Carrey went for well over 100% with this generous gesture.

Considering Carrey's extensive catalog as a comedian and actor, $225 won't make a noticeable dent in his funds. Still, his consideration of the server is a delightful reminder that some celebrities are still good people despite who the money and fame may turn them into.

If you're thinking about becoming a server, you may want to find out where Carrey is dining next.
