Is Microsoft Upgrading the Xbox One?

Firs the 'Neo' PlayStation 4 and now an Xbox 1.5? It's all too much.

In case of what seems to be a ‘my toy is better than (or equal to) yours’ scenario, The Verge have reported that Microsoft are working on a new Xbox One prototype. We suppose we should refer to this as the ‘Xbox 1.5’ from here on.

Whether it’s a retaliation to Sony’s rumoured ‘Neo’ PlayStation 4, or this is something that has been genuinely in the works is unknown. According to reports from Xbox sources, who even claimed to see this fabled machine with their own eyes, at least some of the prototypes have been "tested with upgraded components you'd use to improve the performance of a PC gaming rig”. For readers who may not be clued up on PC-gaming, having top-of the line hardware (e.g. graphics card, RAM, CPU processor) out does any hardware seen in games consoles.

Bare in mind that these are rumoured prototypes and that they may not even see the light of day. Additionally Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer has recently came out against the concept of ‘mid-generation console’ upgrades.

However, recent documents and files with the FCC has suggested that they have began working on a brand new Xbox, possibly a slim-line model. Furthermore, last month Spencer said that he’s intrigued in making hardware improvements that enable "backward and forward compatibility" for the Xbox One.
