Sony Say They Are Also Potentially up for Letting Xbox and Playstation Gamers Play Each Other Online

One step closer to murdering your Xbox-owning friends at FIFA.

So earlier this week, Microsoft announced they were supporting cross platform play on Xbox Live, meaning that Xbox gamers would “be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.” Essential this opened the door for a future where both Xbox One and PS4 players could play each other online, despite using different machines.

There was one very big, notable bouncer standing in front of that door though: Sony themselves. Just because Microsoft were down for a hook-up, it didn’t mean that Sony would be as well, and that would scupper the whole thing. But there’s good news! Gamespot asked Sony for a statement, and they said (in a very non-committal way) that they’d potentially be down for it.  The statement reads:

PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002. We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.

Ok, this doesn’t mean anything is happening anytime soon. But it seems it might be all love and no beef between Mircosoft and Sony, at least on this issue — which means Playstation fanboys are one step closer to murdering their Xbox-owning friends at FIFA  online.
