In a new radio ad hitting the airwaves on Tuesday, iconic directorSpike Lee is making his endorsement of Democratic presidential candidateBernie Sanders super official. The ad, as reported by the New York Daily News, arrives just days ahead of the Sanders' forthcoming showdown with Hillary Clinton in South Carolina:

"Wake up, South Carolina!" Lee says in the ad's opening moments. "This is your dude, Spike Lee. And you know that I know that you know that the system is rigged! For too long, we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets. Sold the okie-doke. 99 percent of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering."

Lee also references the Vermont Senator's history of social protest and his lifelong support of civil rights issues, a history brought swiftly to the forefront thanks to a recently unearthed photo of a young Sanders being arrested while protesting in 1963 as a University of Chicago student.

"That’s why I am officially endorsing my brother, Bernie Sanders," Lee concludes. "When Bernie gets into the White House, he will do the right thing!" As the South Carolina Democratic primary draws closer, Sanders and his supporters remain focused on stalling Hillary Clinton's momentum and projected lead among the state's voters. The Republican primary in South Carolina, which took place this past weekend, sadly let racism take the wheel by giving Donald Trump even more delegates.
