Nick Jonas, former Jonas Brothers member and current thirst trap, transcends any one demographic of listeners. Sure he was undeniably a staple of boy band fixation a few years ago, but he's since built up a steady fan base of supporters that extends beyond the preteen set. He counts the gay community among those fans.

Jonas has been a frequent attendee at LGBTQA-friendly parades and gay clubs for a minute now. And because the Internet sometimes doesn't know its head from its ass, rumors have since questioned Jonas' sexuality and his motives in failing to address it publicly.

In our new cover story, Jonas says it's frustrating that people assume he's exploiting the gay community or remaining ambiguous about his own sexuality to further his career. "There’s always going to be negativity toward anything that is a positive effort toward change," he tells Complex.

"As a heterosexual male, [I am] open and comfortable about loving my fan base, gay or straight, because to me there is no difference, it is my fan base. Your sexual preference does not matter to me and it shouldn’t matter to anybody. I thought [the criticism] was kind of dumb, considering I play this gay character on a gritty show. There’s a gay sex scene. I kissed a man.
