People love Bill Murray first and foremost because he's the kind of guy who DGAF and will dress up as a "Shakesperean clown" for a TV appearance but also because he's a man of the people. Murray, who's endlessly telling cool stories the likes of crashing a party and pissing off Andy Warhol, has always been friendly and accessible to fans, randomly popping up at private events like that time he joined a kickball game in New York. But Murray was not having it today when some fans decided to take some photos of him and he reacted accordingly by throwing their phones off a rooftop.

TMZ was there at the tragic (for the fans) scene. Murray was hanging at the Vesuvio rooftop lounge in Carmel, Calif. a celeb hotspot, especially after playing in the annual Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournaments in which Murray was participating. Who knows if Murray was angry about his game or what but according to TMZ he saw flashes going off from the fans' phones as they took pictures of him, took the phones, and launched them off the two-story building. Vesuvio's owner toldTMZ Murray wasn't drinking and that he plans on implementing a "no phones, no photos" rule since the place is regularly crawling with celebs.

In a November Reddit AMA Murray talked about the pitfalls of fame and being recognized writing:

"The worst thing about it, they're one in the same: You wish you could walk down the street and look at things and watch things uninterrupted. The shock of being recognized brings you out of this place where you're just trying to take it in. Its an obligation and you're reminded you have to show up. It's a coin with two sides. As much as I don't like the one side, the other side is what might save me."

The Huffington Postnotes Murray has reportedly had a history of violence as his ex-wife said in their 2008 divorce papers that Murray "hit her in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her.'"

As for the phones, Murray has offered to pay for the damages and fans won't press charges instead walking away with another story to add to the Murray myth.
