A woman has been listed in "serious condition" after reportedly being shot during a Thursday showing of Michael Bay's 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, KOMO reports. The 40-year-old moviegoer was shot in the chest at a theater in Renton, Washington "about 15 [to] 20 minutes" into the film. "There was a gunshot and we thought it was a light bulb exploding in the theater," one witness tells KOMO, "so no one really reacted."
Preliminary reports from local authorities reveal that the suspect, who is now in custody, was likely drunk and "fumbling" with a handgun when he shot the woman in the chest. "According to him, he said he dropped the gun and it went off," a Renton Police Department spokesperson said. "We have witnesses that say he came into the theater and appeared intoxicated."
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, potentially faces a variety of criminal charges. The man's father placed a 911 call on Thursday evening, telling the dispatcher his son was "distraught" and had accidentally discharged his weapon inside a movie theater. Though no one else was injured during the shooting, the victim remained in serious condition as of Friday morning.
