Despite less than stellar reviews, the last Transformers film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide so it comes as no surprise that there’s going to be a fifth installment.  Mark Wahlberg has already agreed to continue on with the critically-panned franchise and he won’t be alone. Michael Bay just confirmed that he will direct the latest film in the series but maintains that this will be his last one.

"The movie industry has really changed," he toldRolling Stone. "The middle-[budget] movie is basically gone. They just want these big movies. Transformers, I still have a great time. It's fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else."

According to Variety, Paramount has no plans of letting the franchise go any time soon. Last spring, the studio announced plans to establish a writer’s room to develop a new Transformers universe with spinoffs and further installments.
