As we draw closer to the end of yet another year of a hashtagged existence, 2015’s high and low points start to become strikingly clear. As is now a global tradition, Twitter has revealed their #YearOnTwitter recap including the year’s most memorable (and tweetworthy) moments:
Twitter meticulously breaks it all the way down, including entries for the year's most influential and most retweeted cultural moments. Both #JeSuisCharlie and #PrayForParis inspired global calls for solidarity all across social media, with the tragic attacks dominating a great deal of the 2015 discussion. #BlackLivesMatter's united efforts toward consistently recognizing and promptly shining a spotlight on the racially charged police brutality epidemic also emerged as, per Twitter's own description, "one of the most powerful social movements in 2015." Of course, #IStandWithAhmed, #LoveWins, and #RefugeesWelcome also showed the power of the platform's ability to unite people all over the world behind a future-conscious cause.
As for the most retweeted of 2015, there's a whole lot of One Direction going on. Thankfully, the late Leonard Nimoy's final tweet also garnered more than 200,000 RTs alongside Caitlyn Jenner's historic Twitter introduction. Kanye West's concise message of inspiration, urging everyone to do as much as they possibly can in this short life, also made the cut with more than 300,000 RTs:
