People who probably wish they had something better or less cat-related to do remain baffled by New Castle, Pennsylvania's infamous 2014 cat urine stench. Local environmental officials "can’t explain" why many residents thought "part of their town smelled like cat urine," according to the Associated Press. A presumably urine-related report from the Department of Environmental Protection was deemed inconclusive, reports the New Castle News.

Though the report says it's "likely" that some form of waste or similar substance containing mesityl oxide was mixed with a sulfur compound to ultimately give birth to that distinct cat urine odor, officials were unsuccessful in identifying a source for that reaction. Though no environmental expert or scientist of any kind has (or would) suggest such a thing, perhaps an army of cats simply strolled around town while urinating on everything as a united middle finger against dogs?

It's also worth noting that, to the best of my knowledge, no town has ever reported a sudden and remarkably overwhelming odor of dog urine. Because dogs actually care about stuff. Cats are nihilists and, as previously reported, probably still upset about all these dogs casually breaking skateboarding records and learning to ride buses.
