We don’t need to explain to you how recent events in London, Paris and San Bernardino have left people on edge right now. Earlier this week a Muslim passenger was reportedly thrown off a National Express coach. And sadly that doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident.
Now the Evening Standard report that a Muslim passenger was asked to leave a London Underground train after he switch off his iPad screen quickly when another commuter looked at it. That’s not proof of terrorism of course—but he was pressured into leaving the train, and got off at Wood Green Station in North London.
Thankfully, to restore some of your faith in humanity, other passengers did try to defend him. "I saw people reacting so I took my headphones off and realised {a smart dressed guy} was asking someone who looked Arabic to get off the train… because he felt threatened by him.,” a witness told the Standard. "Apparently he had turned off his iPad as the smartly dressed man had looked at it, this was deemed to be "suspicious" in his eyes. A couple of women, one sitting down, one standing up immediately interjected; the Arabic man looked pretty shocked and clearly didn't know what to do. I think he wanted to fight his corner but, thankfully plenty of people stood in between and stopped anything escalating."
“It made me pretty sad and angry to actually see an incident like that but also the reaction of the people coming together to vastly outnumber a bigot was pretty heart-warming,” he continued.
