Man Tries to Sue Game Developers Over His 'Fallout 4' Addiction

He claims a three-week gaming binge cost him his job and his marriage.

Video games are often compared to drugs due to how addictive they can be—and now one man from Serbia is suing games developer Bethesda for his ‘addiction problem’ after a three-week non-stop gaming binge.

He claims that his addiction to the recently released Fallout 4 has cost him both his job and his marriage, and he’s now seeking 500,000 roubles (£4752) for emotional distress from the games company and it’s Russian localisation crew. The 28-year-old gamer claimed he had 'no idea' Fallout 4, which he downloaded for his PC, would become so ‘addictive’. Over that three-week period he stopped going into work, ignored friends and eventually his wife left him, additionally he also stopped sleeping and eating on a regular basis.

In a statement to the Russian government-owned news publication, RT, he claimed that:

"If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays”.

Well it could be worse, you could be this unfortunate dude.

According to  RT, the law firm representing the disgruntled (and possibly jilted) Serbian gamer hope to use this case to 'see how far' they can go regarding the issue of video game addiction. Funnily enough this isn’t the first time something like this has occurred, in 2010 a US federal judge ruled in favour of a Hawaiian man who was addicted to Lineage II. After clocking in over 20,000 hours on the popualr MMORPG, developers NCsoft had to pay his legal fees.
