It's been over a year since Luc Besson released Lucy, the badass thriller that had Scarlett Johansson playing a woman with psychokinetic abilities. It also happened to be one of Besson's better projects in a long time. Now the writer/director, who is best known for his action movies, is preparing to release Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a new film that should make its way to theaters in 2017. While Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen, andRihanna have already been secured for the movie, Besson informed us that famous pianist Herbie Hancock will also have a role.

Based on the graphic novel by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres back in the 60s, Valérian will take place in the distant future when humans have learned to time travel. DeHaan and Delevingne are leading the picture.

Although Besson didn't say much about the role Hancock will be playing, the Oscar-winning musician, who helped produce "RoboCop" on Kanye West's 808s & Heartbreak, has dabbled in acting before. He played a musician in Round Midnight, the film that also secured him an Academy Award for Best Original Score.

As of now, Valérian is slated for a July 2017 release.
