Residents and visitors of the English coastal town of Bournemouth may encounter a shocking and disturbing sound if they find themselves at the Bournemouth Coach Station late at night. In order to deter undesirable behaviors at night, the Bournemouth Borough Council has decided to play annoying tunes from Alvin and the Chipmunks.

According to the BBC, the council believes that the music is part of a grander effort to keep people—in most cases homeless people—from sleeping at the station. For the past six weeks bagpipe music was being played between midnight and 6 AM.

It's pretty ironic considering the whole scheme is part of an effort to make all people at the station feel more comfortable. It's also a pretty cruel and insensitive way to address the homeless population who often sleep at stations like the one in Bournemouth.

"The only way I can describe it is like how people are held at Guantanamo Bay," Bournemouth resident Aron Kennedy, who recorded the music, told the BBC.

Kennedy isn't the only who finds the music to be malicious though. Following several complaints from residents, the police and council are looking to reconsider their entire plan.

It's probably for the best.
