"It was horrible to go through it alone because nobody was home," Paige McVeigh, a teen who inadvertently captured the moment a plane crashed into an apartment building while Snapchatting, tells WKYC Channel 3. The fatal Hawker H25 charter jet crash in Akron, Ohio on Tuesday left all nine people on board the aircraft dead, according to NBC News.
"I thought maybe a bus hit a pole and it fell," McVeigh says of her initial reaction to the crash. "I wasn’t sure what was going on so I went outside to see." As confirmed by local authorities, no one inside the apartment building or adjacent homes (one of which caught fire) were home at the time of the tragic crash.
"We are shocked and deeply saddened for the families, colleagues, and friends of those who perished," Pebb Enterprises, who reportedly employed seven of the nine people aboard the flight, said in a statement. "Our first priority is to give our fullest support to the family members and loved ones of our co-workers." The plane reportedly took off from Dayton and was "on its final approach" to Akron Fulton International Airport when it crashed into an apartment building in Akron at "about 3 p.m." local time, federal authorities confirmed.
