Death of Fox Lake Cop Originally Believed to Have Been Murdered Has Been Ruled a "Carefully Planned" Suicide

The officer staged his death to look like a murder.

The death of Lt. Joe Gliniewicz, originally purported to be a brutal murder, has now been ruled a "carefully planned" suicide. The vaguely described suspects that emerged in discussions surrounding Gliniewicz’s death were apparently fabrications, as Fox 6 Now reports that Lake County Major Crime Task Force commander George Filenko announced their extensive evidence during a press conference on Wednesday. "He behaved for years in a manner completely contrary to the image he portrayed," Filenko said.

Part of this behavior reportedly included Gliniewicz stealing and laundering thousands of dollars from the police department’s youth auxiliary program for personal purchases, the department said. The purchases included gym memberships, porn websites, mortgage payments, and other personal items.

"Gliniewicz committed the ultimate betrayal to the citizens he served and the entire law-enforcement community," said Filenko. "Personally, this is the first time as a police officer that I’m ashamed by the actions of a member of law enforcement." Shortly after Gliniewicz's death, the former Assistant Director of the FBI, Ron Hosko, wrote a widely discussed essay falsely linking it to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Such rhetoric, as summarized earlier today over at the New York Daily News, fueled the entirely fabricated narrative of Gliniewicz as a hero killed in the line of duty.
