If you needed proof that not all superhero films will be a guaranteed success then this year’s ‘crap-tacular’ flop the Fantastic Four should serve as an instant reminder, it’s so bad in fact that a planned sequel has been officially scrapped.

In a surprise to absolutely no one (and we’re pretty sure no f***s were given either) 20th Century Fox have 'quietly' removed the intended sequel from their upcoming film list. What, like we wouldn’t notice? Come on, that film was such a disaster that Kate Mara, who played Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman, still hasn’t seen it! The Fantastic Four was pretty much doomed from the start; from the on-set problems between director Josh Trank and Fox Studios to the aftermath where critics and the geek community alike lambasted the film for it’s poor portrayal of Marvel’s 'First Family' and easily one of the best villains ever, Victor Von Doom. To add insult to injury Trank himself posted a tweet just a few weeks after FF was released where he pretty much disowns his own film.

Despite the negative reviews, obvious on-set drama and the fact that it made a shockingly poor $160 million worldwide, 20th Century Fox were still confident that a sequel would still be in place for July 2017. Fox’s official word on the fallout of the summer box office flop was that they were still “figuring out” it’s next steps. However it seems that the film was so bad that it couldn’t even justify a sequel.

We guess the only shinning light in this debacle is: 1) we won’t have to sit through another sequel because that was painful enough already (we’d rather have bamboo sticks shoved in-between our finger nails) and 2) this may provide a way for Marvel Studios to regain the film rights to the Fantastic Four and finally make a film worthy of the FF  title.

However the latter seems more like a pipe dream, as the film rights belong to Constantin Film, whose agreement with the 'House of Ideas' states that they can only revert the deal if a film isn’t produced by 2022. Therefore Fox still have another shot making a FF film, which if they decide to do we won’t be holding our breath for.
