Though Marty McFly and Doc Brown made it quite clear to Jimmy Kimmel that they've been less than taken with the real 2015, the year has been quite kind to the Back to the Future trilogy. In case you've never heard of the internet or are just really into not appreciating confirmed classics, this week has been loaded with McFly nostalgia thanks to the fact that October 21st, 2015 somehow managed to happen before the world ended.

As part of this global journey through nostalgia for a fictional 2015 as seen through the eyes of a trilogy (mostly) released in the 80s, the films were re-released in 1,815 North American theaters and made some serious bank. According to Box Office Mojo, the special Back to the Future Day showings pulled in an astounding $1.65 million on Wednesday:

But it wasn’t just boring Americans dumping money into the classic franchise, as people all around the world showed up to compare their 2015s. The limited engagement bagged $3.2 million internationally, according to Variety, giving nostalgia a wild pay day to the tune of $4.8 million worldwide.

As previously stated, none of this excitement should be misinterpreted as grounds for developing some sort of reboot. Leave Back to the Future alone!
