Peter Parker’s long suffering wife Mary Jane has left him, and she’s apparently now going to be Netflix-and-chilling with Tony Stark.
Ok, a little context. In 1987, Marvel Comics did something revolutionary and had Spider-Man marry his long term gf Mary Jane Watson. For a while it was all good, but by 2007 they decided they wanted to make Spidey single again. They didn’t want him to be a deadbeat divorcee though, so through some complicated mystical system they retconned it so that they never actually got married, and MJ was actually just Peter Parker’s ex-long-term bae. Since then, MJ’s still been in the comics, but there’s not been much for her to do, apart from get drunk-dialled by Peter. But now Marvel have announced that she’s becoming part of the cast of Iron Man’s comic—and there’s rumours her and Iron Man might become an item.
“They know each other,” teased Brian Bendis, the writer of the monthly Invincible Iron Man book. “She used to live in Avengers Tower {when Spidey was an Avenger}. But that’s all I’m going to say for now because what kind of relationship they end up having is a big part of what I would like people to buy the book for. But what I can tell you is that it is new territory for both Tony and Mary Jane. And that is pretty exciting to write.”
Tony Stark has always been a womaniser, and you can totally see him hitting on a supermodel like MJ. The drama starts in Invincible Iron Man #4, which drops in December.
