Let's be real, KFC is losing. I don't even wanna talk numbers—which aren't good—I more so just mean KFC is losing in terms of cultural relevance and adoration. Everyone loves Chick-fil-A more, even though it's more or less owned and operated by the devil, and Popeye's is just flat-out better than KFC, a fact everyone seems to finally be realizing.

KFC just keeps taking Ls, and they continued last night with the reveal that Norm Macdonald is taking over as Colonel Sanders for KFC's advertisements, replacing fellow Saturday Night Live alum Darrell Hammond. Hammond threw on the white suit less than three months ago as part of a huge campaign aimed to bring the chicken joint back to the top. It didn't really work: according to KFC CEO Greg Creed, one in five people hated the Hammond-led ads.

It's not really clear if that failure is why Macdonald is now wearing a coke-white soul patch now, though—the company's press release announcing the switch just talks about paying "homage to the things that made Kentucky Fried Chicken such an important part of American families" and how Colonel Sanders' life was too craaaazy to be told in one act.

So, I guess that's that—in no time KFC will be running the chicken game. Now, I'd like to leave you a list of other marginally famous former SNL castmembers who could/should hawk fried chicken next:

  • Chris Parnell
  • Jim Bruer
  • Jon Lovitz
  • Cheri Oteri
  • Finesse Mitchell
