A 65-year-old man from Russia claims his skin is growing darker because he recently received a liver transplant from a black donor, the Mirror reports

After he was diagnosed with Hep C and cancer and told he would not live without a new liver, Semen Gendler had a liver transplant surgery in the United States. The Mirror points out that this seems a little sketchy—considering the shortage of organ donors in the U.S. and just how quickly Gendler was able to get matched. But Gendler said it was connections and money that made it happen.

"I do a lot of business in the U.S. with partners in New York, and I asked them to help me arrange for the operation, where if you have enough money, it is possible to do it more quickly than in Russia," said Gendler.

After a successful transplant, Gendler and his friends started noticing his skin becoming darker. "I have known my friend for years, and he has always been if anything extremely pale," said his former colleague. "Now for the first time ever, he is becoming dark-skinned."

Gendler denied the theory that it's just a tan—he said he has avoided the sun since his surgery. His doctors have unable to explain how a new liver could affect his skin color.

But Gendler, with or without an answer, is straight chilling. "I could end up much darker than this, to be honest. I don't care. The main thing is the liver works and I am healthy," he said. "It's incredible, I am now so full of energy and living between two cities... if my skin ends up dark, who cares? I certainly don't."
