The new Ghostbusters is already so lit, thanks to director Paul Feig's casting of an all-female gang of comedians to replace Bill Murray and co. from the 1984 film. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon will be bustin' ghosts in the upcoming film while wearing these uniforms and using these weapons. In this gender-swapped remake, Chris Hemsworth will also be playing the male version of Janine, the receptionist. Hand clap emojis all around.
Today, more news of the reboot has been revealed. Joining the funny women is another SNL lady, Cecily Strong, as well as Andy Garcia as the Mayor, Matt Walsh, anchor Pat Kiernan, and Michael K. Williams—yep, Omar Little from The Wire! Williams will be playing a character named Hawkins.
The film is currently shooting in Boston (though it will be based in New York City). Here's an excerpt of the leaked story details, which have yet to be confirmed. Whatever the case, we have high hopes that Paul Feig and this all-star cast will knock it out of the park. If it's anything like Bridesmaids—a Feig film starring Wiig and McCarthy—this will be a win.
Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
