On Monday's NBC Nightly News, Tracy Morgan returned to the iconic Saturday Night Live studio for the first time since his devastating traffic accident in June of 2014. With his fiancée Megan Wollover and his lawyer by his side, Morgan spoke openly with Matt Lauer regarding the difficulties of recovery and the long but hopeful road toward a return to comedy.

"I love comedy," Morgan told Lauer in the sit-down interview. "I wonder how I'm going to be funny again, remembering my identity." Morgan added that his fans have been a consistent source of support for him and his family, motivating him throughout his ongoing recovery process. "The fans let me know — 'We can't wait for you to come back. We can't wait for you to come back,' and I can't wait to make them laugh again." Morgan then thanked fans for "saving my life."

After Lauer suggested that a fitting gesture of gratitude would be a proper return to the SNL stage, Morgan emotionally agreed. "I promise you," Morgan said tearfully. "One day, when I'm 100 percent — I'm going to grab that mic and I'm never going to let it go. Never." Watch video of the interview below.
