Matt Damon is headed for outer space. The actor stars in Ridley Scott's new sci-fi thriller, The Martian, about a group of NASA scientist sent to planet Mars. The movie's first promo, out today, gives an inside look at the crew and their camaraderie—Damon hosts an farewell video in which each of the astronauts says goodbye to their home planet before the mission launch.

The Martian is based on a book by the same name, written by Andy Weir. Entertainment Weekly reports that the movie focuses on Damon's character, Mark Whatney, who gets left behind on Mars and has to get survive and return home when his crew assumed he is dead.

Scott gave EW the scoop in interview last month: "He finds he has a problem, and instead of him collapsing into terror—because he's got 28 days to live—and that's if everything goes well for him—he knuckles down and actually starts to work it out." So think Cast Away, but in space.

The Martian's cast is star-studded, featuring Jessica Chastain (who also starred in intergalatic drama Interstellar with Damon earlier this year), Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover (holla!), and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The Martian is out in theaters November 25.
