Top Gun, which has been out for 29 years, is getting a sequel. That's right—the instant 1986 classic is coming to the twenty-first century. We already know that Justin Markshas signed on to write the screenplay, and that the plot will focus on how pilots' jobs are being taken over by drone technology. Now, Skydance CEO David Ellison confirms that Tom Cruise will not only reprise his role as Maverick, but also star as the lead in the upcoming sequel, Collider reports.

At a press conference from Terminator Genisys in Berlin, Ellison gave this update on the project:

None

Collider confirms that Ellison is referring to Cruise here, and speculates that his character as a one-time "hot shot" may now be portrayed as a "fossil" in the sequel. We don't know for sure what will happen, but Ellison did have this to say about the tone of the movie:

None

The movie will roll out in 3-D (duh) and IMAX (oooh), so it'll definitely be fun to watch. As for the soundtrack, no word yet on whether "Take My Breath Away" will be featured.
