Hundreds of mostly young people were injured - some critically - when colored powder sprayed over a dancing crowd somehow ignited during a "color party" in Taiwan on Saturday night.

The New York Times reports that more than 500 people were burned in the explosion at a water park in New Taipei City, at an event that was billed as the "largest color party in Asia." Color parties involve spraying colored powder onto partiers from the stage in a method similar to what's seen at color runs in the U.S.

The video above shows a huge crowd of people dancing to a remix of the Kanye West/Jay-Z track "Niggas in Paris" when a massive fire suddenly erupts.

More than 400 of the people injured reportedly remained in the hospital the following day, nearly 200 of them in intensive care.

According to the Times, Taiwan's prime minister said Sunday that events using the colored powder (supposedly a mix of corn starch and food coloring) would be banned.
