WTF, Mike Huckabee?

Mike Huckabee said he wished he could have said he was transgender "when it came time to take showers in PE."

Former Arkansas Governor and presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee made some pretty horrendous comments about transgender folks earlier this year at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

In a video uploaded by World Net Daily last week, Huckabee addressed a crowd to talk about the "threat" of transgender people and laws that protect them:

"For those of you who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your seven-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can't be offended if she's greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man," Huckabee said.

In perhaps the most SMH-worthy moment of the speech, Huckabee added this: I wish someone had told me when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE."

"I'm pretty sure I would have found my feminine side," Huckabee continued, "and said, 'Coach, I think I'd rather shower with the girls today.' You're laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn't it?"

Huckabee, who recently voiced his support for Josh Duggar in the midst of the Duggars' child molestation scandal, seemed to reveal just how little he understands about transgender people and their experiences in the speech. He also said that something seemed "inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment."

"I'm not against anybody," said Huckabee. "I'd just like for somebody to bring their brain to work some day [...] when they show up to govern."
