The FBI has seized several computers linked to last year's mass celebrity nude photo hack delicately dubbed "The Fappening," according to a search warrant obtained by Gawker. Back in October the feds searched the Chicago home of Emilio Herrera and determined one or more computers in his home had been used to access or attempted to access 572 iCloud accounts, the majority of which belong to "celebrities, models, or their friends and families." But somehow Herrera hasn't been arrested or even named a subject.
Whoever was using the computers in Herrera's home didn't need a sophisticated system of hacking to crack into the accounts. Instead, the person went with the tried-and-true method of phishing email addresses and resetting the passwords. So we can chill out on the Apple outrage (until the next outrage, of course).
The warrant seemingly confirmed some of the victims identities by naming their initials. From Gawker: "The affidavit for the first time confirms the scope and authenticity of the picture leak—“female celebrities” are listed as victims, though by initials only: 'A.S., C.H., H.S., J.M., O.W., A.K., E.B., and A.H.' These initials presumably refer to Abigail Spencer, Christina Hendricks, Hope Solo, Jennette McCurdy, Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick, Emily Browning, and Amber Heard (though we could be incorrect)." A yet-to-be-released affidavit obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times also lists a "J.L.," presumably Jennifer Lawrence.
