Video of a middle school substitute teacher breaking up a fight between his students made round on the internet, ending up on LiveLeak, YouTube and WorldStarHipHop, according to a report from Gawker. The substitute teacher, who has not been identified by name, has since "been removed from the classroom."

The incident happened at a school within Prince George's County Public Schools in Maryland. The school district released this statement, assuring readers that the police are now involved:

“On Friday, May 15, a substitute teacher used improper actions to discipline students while in one of our classes at Gwynn Park Middle School. The substitute teacher has been removed from the classroom and the matter has been referred to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Prince George’s County Public Schools does not condone this type of behavior and it is not representative of the level of professionalism and respectful conduct of the team at the school. PGCPS works to create a respectful and safe environment for all students and staff.”

Because of when the student started filming the incident, it's unclear if the substitute teacher was breaking up a fight between students, or if the students were already running away from him.

Corporal punishment is not allowed in the state of Maryland.
