Vermont Lawmakers Are Taking Alcohol Hostage to Legalize Weed

A bold move.

In their efforts to legalize marijuana Vermont State Representatives Jean O'Sullivan and Christopher Pearson have basically put a gun to alcohol's head. The two have sponsored a bill that would effectively reinstate alcohol prohibition in Vermont. They don't actually want the bill to pass; they just want to embarrass leadership for taking so long to make moves on legalizing weed.

Pearson said to the AP, "Whereas prohibiting the sale and possession of alcohol is a laughable suggestion, the commonsense reaction against this idea should be the same logic we use to consider the continued prohibition of marijuana."

We'll see if this lights the fire under the legislature's ass. We do know, however, that both Pearson and O'Sullivan light up from "time to time." So shouts to reporter Dave Gram for asking the obvious question that most people wouldn't dare.
