Officials in New York City say a man who allegedly discharged a gun inside of a Queens bar before shooting at police was fatally shot last night.

According to the Associated Press, NYPD officers were responding to a report about shots fired inside of Jamaica, Queens' Irish Hillside Inn around 9 p.m. They reportedly engaged the 30-year-old as he was fleeing the bar, prompting a chase. NBC New York reports that, during the chase, the man opened fire at officers, then later pointed his gun at them again. NBC New York adds that they fired five shots at him, and he later died at Jamaica Hospital after being struck in the torso.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, and the suspect's identity was being withheld pending family notification.
