If Idris Elba Doesn't Play James Bond It's Our Fault

And Daniel Craig's, too.

We need to find some sort of balance for entertainment news hysteria. At its best the Internet hype machine can be instrumental in landing an actor the role we so desire them in (e.g. Donald Glover landing an animated Spider-Man). And at its worst our digital chatter can ruin everything (e.g. Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig's Lifetime movie).

The wave of support for Idris Elba playing James Bond has ironically hurt the actor's shot at the role, according to Elba himself. "Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself," he said at London's British Film Institute. "If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone."

We may have goofed by going wild with the rumors, but Elba places the onus of responsibility on the man who first suggested him for the role publicly. "Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off," Elba said. "About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond, and then it started to creep. I blame Daniel."

Perhaps starting the rumor was an elaborate ruse to ward off his most worthy competitor for the role of James Bond. Surely some of that 007 savvy has worn off on Craig.
