The Baltimore Police Department has released a statement announcing that it has reason to believe at least three gangs are working together to "take out" law enforcement officers.

The statement says the department has received "credible information" that various gang groups, including the Black Guerilla Family, the Bloods, and the Crips are involved in this plot, and highlighted that this is a "credible threat." The department also asked all law enforcement officers, whether in uniform or not, to take caution to protect themselves and other officers.

It's not known at this time if this development has any relation to the death and funeral for Freddie Gray, the 25 year old Baltimore man who died while in police custody earlier this month. The funeral was today, and was expected to draw thousands of people.

According to the Associated Press (via NBC News), the Blood Guerilla Family has confronted the Baltimore Police Department before:

Earlier this year, Baltimore police said the Black Guerilla Family sent a man into the Northeastern District station house with marijuana, cocaine and a loaded gun to test the station's security.
