The comedian told the story of how a grandmother, despite her best efforts, went to jail for being unable to pay her municipal fines. "I didn't figure they could come get you for tickets," she said. Yea, neither did we.
In many states, the punishment for not paying a fine on time is suspending people’s driver’s licenses but since driving is how most people get to work, it's, as Oliver jokes, "the most self-defeating idea since gay conversion camp.”
