Chloë Sevigny was an Oscar-nominated actress 16-years ago for Boys Don't Cry. She started her acting career with a starring role in the alt-cult film, Kids. She gave a narratively climactic blowjob to alt-weirdo Vincent Gallo in The Brown Bunny. And she was semi-recently the odd woman that wanted to help Louis CK reconnect with Parker Posey (the original alt-girl) in Louie, but when she couldn't help find him find her Sevigny's character masturbated in a coffee shop instead, so turned on she was by the lost puppy sadness of Louie.

All that is to say: Sevigny has made a career of being alternative. She's never been a star. But she's known in the art crowd. In an interview with V Magazine she said she's "afraid that maybe people think there's more personality than acting ability." The interviewer tells her—but this is the age of branding! And Sevigny is a brand (she's actually, also a face of a brand, modeling for Opening Ceremony). But Sevigny bemoans movie star branding. "They'll have a really peppy funny girl on the talk show rounds, and everybody adores her and loves her and wants to be her or fuck her," Sevigny says, "and then so many more people want to watch the movie or TV show. I understand that star quality, how much value that carries."

Then, to show she's truly alternative, Sevigny makes a tier of current female movie stars she thinks are interesting as capitalized STARS. At the top of her list is Angelina Jolie. Somewhere in the middle climbing up is Emma Stone ("when she's herself," Sevigny says.) But at the bottom is America's Sweetheart: Jennifer Lawrence. Sevigny calls her "annoying" and "too crass."

Stay tuned to see if JLaw responds... or orders a bunch of pizzas instead.
