Authorities say an official with the U.S. State Department has been arrested for soliciting sex from a minor.
The Associated Press reports that Director of Counterterrorism Daniel Rosen, 44, was arrested at his home in D.C. yesterday afternoon. Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell told the Associated Press that Rosen was arrested as part of a sting operation that began following a string of "online exchanges" from the department's Child Exploitation Unit.
Although State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki would not confirm Rosen's identity to Fox News, she said that his security clearance has been revoked:
We are aware that a State Department employee has been arrested and charges have been issued.
For issues related to Department personnel and for privacy reasons, we are not able to confirm the identity of the individual or specific charges.
His security clearance will be suspended and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process. We are following standard procedure in this case.
Rosen is expected to appear in court today on one charge of soliciting sex from a minor.
