It's meta-fitting that Neil Patrick Harris spoofed Birdman—a movie about a superhero actor trying to make an artistic statement of relevance on Broadway—since Harris is a Tony Award winning stage actor, who's hosting the Oscars is trying to become more film relevant. The spoof bit is Harris recreating Michael Keaton being locked out of the building, losing his bathrobe, and walking back into the theater in his underwear, and encountering Miles Teller on the drumkit because y'know there's drums on the Birdman soundtrack, and Teller plays a drummer for the movie Whiplash.
This bit might've worked better if you didn't see the Independent Spirit Awards bit that was extremely similar (and funnier) with Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Teller. Compare the two.
