It could've been worse.

NBC news has finally taken action following the backlash over Brian Williams' admission that he lied about a story he said occurred during his Iraq war coverage in 2003. The NBC Nightly News anchor, and managing editor, took some days off after the news broke, but now he’s been suspended by NBC.

Williams’ six month suspension will be without pay. In the meantime, Lester Holt will replace Williams as anchor.

NBC Universal CEO, Steve Burke, said in a statement, "By his actions, Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News. His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate."

He added, "Brian's life's work is delivering the news. I know Brian loves his country, NBC News and his colleagues. He deserves a second chance and we are rooting for him. Brian has shared his deep remorse with me and he is committed to winning back everyone's trust."

ICYMI: Williams had said that the helicopter he was riding in took on enemy fire in Iraq from AK-47s and R.P.G.s, before he came clean and confessed it wasn’t true, apologizing.
