Filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour doesn't need a blender. She's already blending up genres. Her first feature film, A Girl Walks Alone at Night, was an Iranian vampire western. Girl was one of the most underrated movies of 2014 (and looks and feels like the vampire movie that Jim Jarmusch would've made early in his career; Jarmusch also had a pretty distinct vampire movie of his own last year).

Amirpour has sold her next film, The Bad Batch, to the coolest kid at the cool kids' table: Megan Ellison (Her, The Master, Spring Breakers). Ellison's Annapurna Pictures is producing alongside VICE. Batch will mark VICE's first feature-film production (The Wrap notes that VICE previously helped market Her, Spring Breakers, and The Grandmaster for Annapurna).

The Bad Batch uses a similar mouth-wetting combination of nouns that ended up working so well for A Girl Walks Alone at Night; this holy-hip-trinity will beTexas, Cannibal, Love Story. Just outside that bomb-zone trio? A post-apocalyptic wasteland setting. And Jason Momoa is in talks to star.

Momoa is having a re-moment. After failing to catch on as a Hollywood Manufactured Action Star 2.0 with the forgettable Conan the Barbarian reboot, Momoa regrouped by taking a pilot with indie-favorite director James Gray (for Sundance TV's Red Road), then he was cast as Aquaman for both Batman v Superman and his own standalone Aquaman movie (sorry, Vincent Chase/Adrian Grenier). And now, it appears that in between comic book movies, Momoa will regroup with an upstart, burgeoning indie-favorite with Amirpour.

If Momoa plays a cannibal, he's certainly going to look well fed. If he's fighting off cannibals, we can certainly see why they're after him. That's a lot of beef.
