Bruce Lee's life was portrayed in the 1993 film Dragon, but his family insists his complete story hasn't been told. His daughter Shannon and widow Linda are planning to rectify that by producing the "definitive" biopic on the legendary martial artist and action star. The two are teaming with Last Vegas producer Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, and Janet Yang to make it happen.

Shannon told Deadline few people realize the depth of her father's artistry:

"There have been projects out there involving my father, but they’ve lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. "They haven’t captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling. The only way to get audiences to understand the depth and uniqueness of my father is to generate our own material and find amazing like-minded partners to work with…many don’t know that Bruce Lee was also a prolific writer and a creator of his own unique art and philosophy. That’s what we want to show, not just his kick-ass physicality, but the depth of his character and beliefs."

She also said the movie, which will be self-financed, will focus on Lee's intellectual approach to overcoming obstacles, as well as his creation of his own martial art style, Jeet Kune Do. Before he became a star Lee had a difficult time breaking out into Hollywood, losing lead roles to white actors. It wasn't until he went back to Hong Kong that he became an icon.

We can expect the upmost care to be taken with this flick. When Shannon met with prospective Chinese production partners she was told her dad was right up there with Confucius as a Chinese hero.
