Apple's new "Spaceship Campus" headquarters will reportedly cost nearly $5 billion take up 2.8 million square feet. So it ain't nothing for the company to stunt with $850 million devoted to solar energy.
Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company is building a brand new solar 1,300-acre solar farm in Monterey, Calif. The move marks a serious commitment to the environment and will provide significant savings to Apple over time. "We know at Apple that climate change is real," Cook said at a Goldman Sach's Technology and Internet conference. "The time for talk has passed and the time for action is now."

The project is expected to add 130 megawatts of new solar power to California, enough to power about 50,000 average homes. It will cover all the company's energy needs in the state, including Apple Campus 2, other California corporate offices, the data center in Newark, California, and the 52 Apple stores in California.
The headquarters might as well be its own country.
