Foxcatcher may be getting a lot of award buzz for director Bennett Miller and stars Channing Tatum, Steve Carell, and Mark Ruffalo, but there’s one person who isn’t a fan in the slightest: the man Tatum’s character is based on, Mark Schultz.

Schultz has taken to social media in recent days to bash the movie, especially Miller. Schultz feels that Miller did not accurately depict him, and took to his Facebook page to post the following amended history of the film:

Schultz then went on a since-deleted Twitter rant on New Year’s Eve in which he dropped gems like “Everything I've ever said positive about the movie I take back. I hate it. i hate it. i hate it. I hate it. i hate it. i hate it. I hate it” and “I HATE BENNETT MILLER.”

While he has pulled back a little bit from that stance, Schultz wrote on his Facebook yesterday that:

“My story and my life are real. I am a real human being. While I may have tweeted out of anger, I in no way regret standing up for myself, nor do I regret calling out the only other man who has had decision making power concerning my image and legacy these past years.

“I apologize for the harshness of my language, but I am firm in where I stand. I will gladly go to any lengths to protect and safeguard the integrity and truth of my story, my life, my character and my legacy. If that’s not worth fighting over while I’m still alive, I don’t know what is.”

While Schultz’s objections to the movie’s content will likely do nothing to slow its awards momentum, they do have to temper some of the awe the story has inspired.
