Yahoo Rejected Gwyneth Paltrow Because She Didn’t Have a College Degree

The lack of a college degree meant that Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't good enough to be an editor for Yahoo Food.

Sorry, Gwyneth Paltrow. All the GOOP experience in the world won’t get you a job at Yahoo, not unless you enroll at the University of Phoenix too.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer apparently blocked an attempt by the company two years ago to hire Paltrow as a contributing editor to the site’s Food section, apparently because Mayer “disapproved of the fact that Paltrow did not graduate college.”

College, it seems, is very important to Mayer. A New York Times Magazine piece says that she “habitually asked deputies where they attended college,” presumably because she can’t wait to tell people she did both undergrad and graduate school at Stanford. We get it, Marissa; you’re super smart.

Despite the setback, Gwyneth has recovered just fine. She even managed to hit on the president, a feat few have ever been able to accomplish.
