Wait, Is Sony Trying to Make a "Super Mario" Movie?

The world is collapsing.

The Sony Pictures email leak is continuing to stir up some interesting information and gossip. It has been discovered in leaked emails that Sony Pictures may have had some plans for a Super Mario movie in the pipeline (they're plumbers, get it?).

The last time we got a live action Super Mario movie was in 1993 and it was "so bad it's good" levels of celluloid excreta, but perhaps the biggest surprise here is that Sony would have anything to do with rival Nintendo's golden boy.

Leaked emails show communication between Sony head Amy Pascal and producer Avi Arad, where Arad sent pictures to Pascal of him meeting Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, proclaiming that he was "the proud father of Mario the animated film."

The email was dated from October 23 of this year and suggests the film would be an animation, but there is no word on whether the project is going to be approved or not. At any rate, it certainly seems like a strange move for Sony to make, given the Mario character's obvious conflict with the Playstation brand.

Let's hope it doesn't end up like this one.
